Linear DC Motors, Voice Coil Motors (VCM) or Voice Coil Actuators (VCA) are the simplest type of electric motors. These motors consist of two separate parts; the magnetic housing and the coil. Applying a voltage across the terminals of the motor causes the motor to move to one direction. Reversing the polarity of the applied voltage will move the motor to the opposite direction. The generated force is proportional to the current that flows through the motor coil. This force is almost constant in the specified stroke range of the motor.

Voice coil motors do not need commutation and depending on the resolution of the position sensor, very high positioning accuracies are achievable.

The non-commuted motor construction increases reliability. The direct coupling of the motor to the load allows for fast acceleration / deceleration and high speed operation.

A customer supplied linear bearing is required to support the moving coil.

This motor may be used in conjunction with a position sensor and a motion controller for accurate positioning.
For proper heat sinking the motor may need to be installed on a metallic body.

The miniature, high force-to-size Linear Voice Coil Servo Motor, the LVCM-013-013-03M (Metric version) 12.7 mm (0.500 in.) diameter and a high-force-to-size ratio of 1.42 N (5.1 oz) and a peak force of 4.48 N (16.1 oz) at a 10% duty cycle.

Operated in a closed loop servo loop as a DC Servo Motor, this miniature linear servo motor exhibits high accuracy and high repeatability. Features of this clean brushless linear servo actuator include: Zero cogging, quiet, low inertia, high acceleration/deceleration, high reliability and efficient operation.

Known also as moving coil motor or linear actuator, the LVCM-013-013-03M has a 3.2 mm (0.125 in.) stroke and are just 19.0 mm (0.75 in.) long at mid-stroke. It can be easily integrated into new and existing applications and is an ideal replacement for pneumatic actuators.

The high force-to-size make it the practical choice for: Scanners, laser beam steering and filtering, haptic feedback, dynamic vibration absorption and image stabilization, dispensing, work holding and clamping, assembly, testing, and wafer handling.

The, Made in the USA, LVCM-013-013-03M has M3X0.5 threaded holes in the center of the housing and the coil end for easy integration into new or existing applications.
